(USGovernment-News.Com, April 02, 2013 ) LAKE WORTH, FL - Over the weekend a fire truck, with its sirens on passing through a red light, collided with a four door sedan. The sedan sustained severe damage, while the driver was flown to Delray Medical Center in critical condition.
Three firefighters were also injured in the accident and were taken to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis. The accident blocked one lane of traffic while crews cleaned up the accident.
The fire truck was reportedly traveling to an abandon house where heavy smoke and fire was pouring out of. The fire was quickly taken under control by firefighters, as the response time was not affected by the accident. Further investigations of both the crash and the fire are currently under investigation.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration estimates that nearly 2,000 fire truck accidents occur each year resulting in over 1,000 injuries. One of the primary reasons for these accidents includes failure to yield the right of way to fire trucks, especially through intersections such as this unfortunate incident.
