Jonathan Perkins Injury Lawyers Warns Drivers of the Dangers of Texting & Driving

(USGovernment-News.Com, March 30, 2013 ) Hartford, CT – A recent survey by AT&T has posted some startling numbers about texting and driving, 49 percent of commuters admit that take part in this dangerous habit. The survey also found that 60 percent of drivers admit they did not text and drive three years ago. Although texting and driving has been banned in many states, including Connecticut, drivers continue to take the risk of getting into accident while texting.

In Connecticut if a driver is caught on their cell phone they may be fined between $100 and $400 but a House bill introduced earlier this year could increase the fine. House bill No. 5248 is requesting that drivers who are caught using their cell phones while driving be fined $150 for their first offense, $300 for a second offense, and $500 for a third or subsequent violations. The bill is still in the process of moving forward.

According to The National Safety Council approximately 28 percent of all traffic crashes involve drivers using their cell phones to talk or text. In Connecticut more than 117,000 traffic citations have been issued since the cell phone ban went into effect which may have helped prevent thousands of distracted driving crashes from occurring.

When drivers are using their cell phones they are often taking their eyes off the road, taking their hands off the wheel, and distracting themselves from the task in front of them which leads to many types of accidents, injuries, and ultimately even fatalities.

If you or a loved one was injured in an accident by a careless driver, investigators may be able to prove that the driver was on their cellphone at the time of accident and ensure that they are held responsible for their actions. The injured victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and more.
