(USGovernment-News.Com, March 29, 2013 ) Mobile, AL – A fourth round of safety checkpoints by the Mobile Police Department have been set up for Friday, March 29th, 2013, less than a week after the department’s third set of checkpoints. The check points are used to ensure that motorists are complying with state and local laws.
According Public Information Officer Ashley Rains the police department will be checking for proper use of seat belts, child restraint systems, proof of driver’s licenses and registration, and proof of insurance.
The exact location of the safety checkpoints will not be announced but officials say they often focus on locations where they receive a high number of citizen complaints for speeding, running through stop signs, and more.
According to the University of Alabama Center for Advanced Public Safety, speeding and failure to properly follow traffic signs and signals caused more than 14,000 crashes in 2011. Speeding itself actually caused approximately 2.4% of all fatal crashes in the state.
