(USGovernment-News.Com, March 15, 2013 ) GASTONIA NC – Early Thursday morning Gunn’s Mini Mall on Old York Road in Gastonia burst into flames. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. as firefighters rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, the 50 foot flames were not able to be put out in time to save any of the businesses located inside the mall.
Bystanders reported that the heat could be felt standing on Old York Road, while watching firefighters dumped thousands of gallons of water on the building in attempt to extinguish the flames. Once the fire was extinguished, all that was left of the mall were the outer walls.
One lane of traffic was blocked on U.S 321 around Stagecoach Road as a result of the fire. The lanes remained blocked as investigators searched for the cause of the fire. At this time no injuries have been reported and the cause has not yet been revealed.
Reports indicate that deaths and burn injuries caused by fires are currently the third leading cause of fatal home injuries. Individuals that have been injured as a result of a fire may be eligible for legal and financial recourse.
