(USGovernment-News.Com, March 07, 2013 ) BALDWIN COUNTY, AL – The $85 million expressway project called the Baldwin Beach Express is making headway and has reached a major milestone, an interchange on I-10 that will connect traffic onto the new road.
Although the four-lane highway will not be completed for another 14 to 16 months a ground breaking celebration will be held on March 15th, 2013. Governor Robert Bentley and Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper are expected to attend the ground—breaking ceremony.
Officials hope that the newest expressway will allow for easier travel to Baldwin County beaches. They also hope it will lead to smoother local and tourist traffic, and a more efficient commercial passage to the Gulf Coast.
Although the project aims to help local businesses, residents, and tourists it will also increase the likelihood of expressway auto accidents. In 2009 the average number of fatal accidents in Baldwin County was actually higher than the state average.
