(USGovernment-News.Com, February 22, 2013 ) ROGERS, AR – A strong winter storm has carried extremely slick conditions to the greater northern half of Arkansas on Thursday. This storm caused hazardous conditions on most roadways causing most school districts, businesses and churches to close for the day.
Several accidents were reported as the storm continued to travel through the regions, including an accident between two tractor trailers on Interstate 40. This accident left both truck drivers with minor injuries. The collision left the interstate traffic backed up for several miles throughout most of the day, closing both east and westbound lanes.
As the winter season continues, we must remember to abide by all traffic laws, drive at slower speeds, and apply our brakes before we normally would. Slick roads cause traffic speed to reduce anywhere from five to forty percent of the average speed. This is because it takes twice as long for a vehicle to stop on icy roads as it normally would.
