Electronic Printing Preserving Classic Art at Showcase reports Cartridge Supplier

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 29, 2012 ) Bridgewater, NJ -- The Shanghai Museum recently unveiled masterpieces of early paintings and calligraphy of the early Chinese era from an American collection. However, certain viewers of the collection could not appreciate the details due to the dimmed lighting and reflections from the windows.

Those same visitors may find it easier to appreciate the exhibition of 60 reproductions by Nigensha, a Japanese publishing house that is involving artists and advanced printing development.

Some works are the recreations of the art that was found in the Shanghai Museum.

The Museum.

The exhibit is currently underway at the Duoyunxuan art house. It is a 100-year-old Shanghai seller of traditional art supplies, which include the “four treasures of the study”: calligraphy brushes, ink sticks, ink stones, and rice paper.

The advanced printing has helped create top-quality reproductions that are augmented by specialized printing skills. The Japanese are famous for Ukiyoe artistic genre of woodblock printing.

“The replicas rely more on people than equipment or computer,” says Qiao Yang, organizer of the showcase. “Nuances of color in the originals are achieved by relying on the eyes of experts for minute adjustment.”

Such work often takes years to complete for full reproduction. It took 16 years to reproduce a large scroll from an original collected at the Palace Museum in Taipei.

Compared with a jet-printed replica, color printed replicas can be preserved for hundreds of years. This is achieved by involving “deep printing” rather than “surface printing.”

“These reproductions are filled with more layers of colors,” Qiao says. He adds that the works may actually resemble the originals when they are newly reproduced.

The replications are important to many art buffs as many of the Ningensha professionals have already retired. The skill has since faded out with failing popularity, but for art enthusiasts, the work is severely important.
