On October 11, 2012 at Forest View Education Center 2121 S. Goebert Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005 at 5:45 pm the following will be offered:

What Appellate Judges Expect: Justice Margaret McBride

The Empty Chair Defense: Honorable William J. Haddad

Brain injury attorney Gary A. Newland with the Law Firm of Newland & Newland LLP located at 121 S. Wilke Rd #301 Arlington Heights, IL 60005 will be presenting on information such as psychological testing and interpretation of that testing, as well understanding and using the DSM IV. The DSM IV is a manual used to help diagnose mental disorders.

Attorney Newland will touch on aspects of the testing process imposed by independent psychiatric and psychological experts. These tests are subject to abuse, as there is a great deal of subjective analysis and the opportunity for bias in the testing process. This may result in false findings malingering where no malingering exists.

Psychological testing is important because most brain injuries do not show up on an MRI or CAT scan. The testing is used to determine the degree of disability and if there are signs of malingering.

Gary Newland has been a lawyer for almost 20 years and has been a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association for much of that time. He is on the Board of Governors of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.

He was recently invited to speak before the American Society for Justice on the topic of food poisoning.

Attorney Gary Newland is a member of the national attorney network on LawyerCentral.com.
