(USGovernment-News.Com, August 21, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - Separated couple Rose Jones and Reginald Jones, were jailed for claiming disability benefits amounting more than £130,000 from the Department for Work and Pensions. Rose Jones was jailed for 15 months and Reginald Jones was given an 18 month sentence.
The couple separately claimed benefits by deceiving the Department for Work and Pension. They portrayed themselves as extremely disabled and unable to continue doing any work. However, the department investigated their case and found out that the couple had taken holidays for scuba diving lessons indestinations like Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt, the Maldives and Indonesia.
The Judge highlighted the fact that Rose had a severe back condition, and she was signed off from work but she exaggerated her needs and according to DWP, she claimed £45,500 in capability benefit, £52,181 in disability living, £15, 975 tax credit allowance and £5,351 in careers allowance.
Their crimes were very serious, and that was reflected by the intensity of punishments given. These funds were for the benefit of the neediest in society, and got used for a royal lifestyle.
