Just the opposite in fact, as Justin has made his living travelling the world with the U.S Military as a Project Manager. Incredibly, Justin’s website, created for a small group of serving personnel, has inadvertently thrown a financial lifeline to thousands of students seeking college educations.
According to the latest statistics, the average College education costs over $30,000, lasts for four years and leaves the average student with over $20,000 of debt. While the numbers could make beads of sweat drip down the foreheads of even the hardiest of students, it appears there is a cheaper way.
For years CLEP (College Level Examination Program) and DSSTs (DANTES Subject Standardized Test) have provided a way to both lower the cost of a college education and decrease the length of study. In fact, the credits the tests offer can allow students to gain a degree in as little as two years, at a cost as low as $8,000.
Justin was aware of the advantages the tests afford, and while working at JTF Guantanamo Bay he created Free-Clep-Prep.com, aiming to assist those in remote locations to study for the tests.
“A lot of the young men and women on the base were interested in taking the CLEP or DSST exams to make college more affordable. Since they were away from home, I thought a small website offering test preparation materials might do the trick as they could access it remotely,” says Justin.
He continues, “The idea was that they could use the website to study, wherever they were stationed in the world.”
With word of mouth responsible for catapulting many a website to international fame, the information available on Free-Clep-Prep.com quickly became a hot topic.
“Those on the base were sharing the link with their friends back home, who in turn were continuing to pass on the link. Suddenly, we weren’t just for the military anymore. Home-school students, working professionals, and even foreign students who were planning to attend college in the US all began to contact us for advice.” Justin says.
As 2012 arrived, the website continued to attract more visitors, now seeing more than 40,000 unique visitors a month from over 100 countries. Free-Clep-Prep.com has become an invaluable goldmine for students looking to shave a chunk off the cost of attending college.
Containing detailed write-ups of each test and the benefits they bring, test tips, difficulty lists, free practice tests, bragging posts and even user-generated feedback, the site is changing the way students approach Higher Education.
“What started off as a small site to help our service members has grown into something so much more. We’ll continue to provide as much free, quality content as we can and I’m looking forward to see where we go from here.” Justin concludes.
