Finding safe, affordable child care can be a struggle for many families. MichiganÂ’s Department of Human Services (DHS) offers assistance for child care services through its Child Development and Care program (CDC). When a parent, legal guardian or substitute parent is not able to provide child care due to work, education and/or because of a health/social condition for which treatment is being received, CDC will assist those eligible parents by providing payments for child care service.
To be eligible for child care assistance through CDC, families and/or individuals must:
• Be a member of a DHS protective or preventive services case participating in a treatment plan,
• Must meet the income requirements,
• Be a licensed foster parent requesting care for foster children,
• Be a FIP applicant doing a required Michigan Works! Agency (MWA) activity,
• Be an EFIP Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient.
The amount of child care assistance received through CDC is based on the type of provider you choose, the area where the care is provided and the childÂ’s age.
