Florida Probate Lawyer Turns Teacher Temporarily

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 09, 2011 ) Boynton Beach, Florida –Florida probate lawyer Adele Harris will trade - temporarily - her attorney's hat for a teacher's hat. On June 8, she will teach paralegals, legal secretaries and other legal support staff about estate administration and the Florida Probate process. The focus of her presentation will be the surviving spouse’s elective share rights, and Florida homestead property rules. The course is sponsored by the Institute for Paralegal Studies and will be held in West Palm Beach.

This is the second time Ms. Harris is teaching the course on Probate in Florida.

When in Florida.

When a Florida resident dies, any asset the person owned that does not have a co-owner, a designated beneficiary, or which was held in a trust, will need to pass through Probate. Probate is the court-supervised process by which a person's estate is distributed to heirs and creditors paid. In Florida, Probate can be particularly time consuming. Because so many Florida residents have Personal Representatives who reside out-of-state, the process can also be very inconvenient for the family. Several types of probate procedures are available in Florida, depending on the extent of the assets and other factors. Meeting all the legal requirements is also important in order to ward off any challenges to the estate.

Ms. Harris feels privileged in her professional life. She has the opportunity to help families during one of the most difficult times they can face: The passing of a loved one. The job can be emotionally challenging, but Ms. Harris finds ample reward in knowing she can alleviate some of the stress families face under these difficult circumstances.

"Families who come to me are grieving. They have plenty on their plates already, and the last thing they need is to have to deal with government bureaucracy. I can help guide the Personal Representative through the Probate Process, make sure all the loose ends are tied up, meet the court deadlines and requirements, locate beneficiaries and creditors. I also help determine what taxes may be due. All of this is part of the Probate process, and it can be just overwhelming for family members, especially for a bereaved spouse."

Ms. Harris is affiliated with The Karp Law Firm, a South Florida law firm assisting clients with probate, trust administration, estate planning, elder law and estate litigation. The firm maintains offices in Boynton Beach, Port St. Lucie and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
