LegalView Updates Mesothelioma Portal

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 21, 2011 ) NEW YORK - LegalView, a leading online legal resource, has updated its mesothelioma portal.

Many people are familiar with garlic which is used in cooking, but research has shown that it can help to prevent many cancers, including mesothelioma, a deadly form of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

The plant has been consumed by thousands for centuries in many different types of cuisines. It is used to add flavor to dishes, and studies have shown that it can be beneficial for those suffering from cancer, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times.

Allicin, a chemical with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, is released when the bulb is cut. In studies, when mice with cancer were injected with allicin lived up to six months while those who were not injected with the chemical only lived up to two months. Also, while observational studies are more common than clinical ones, 28 out of 37 observational studies show that moderate garlic consumption is beneficial to overall health. There is also strong evidence that garlic can help to prevent cancer.

Garlic also boosts the immune system; it helps to create more white blood cells. In patients who have exceeded the four to eight month mesothelioma life expectancy or who have gone into full remission of the cancer, the majority had engaged in some form of immune enhancing therapy. This has lead researchers to believe that having a strong immune system is crucial to fighting mesothelioma.

Other forms of mesothelioma treatment include chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery.

Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure. There are several symptoms of mesothelioma which include pain in the abdominal region, persistent cough, or shortness of breath. However, the symptoms can take up to 30 years to present themselves; so many people who have been exposed to asbestos may not know they have the cancer.

Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people are diagnosed with the cancer each year. Many times, patients are only given about a year to live.

Those who suffer from mesothelioma, seek legal counsel because many of the manufactures of asbestos knew of its dangerous affects but did not tell their employees or the public.
