DePuy Hip Metal Poisoning Alert Released by Class Action.org

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 13, 2011 ) New York, NY – Patients who have been implanted with the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular Hip System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System may be at risk for hip metal poisoning from these metal-on-metal devices, warns Class Action.org. The recalled DePuy hip implants have been linked to metallosis, an inflammatory reaction to increased levels of metal in the body, as well as cobaltism, a serious condition caused by excess levels of the metal cobalt in the bloodstream and tissues. If you have been implanted with the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular Hip System or the ASR Hip Resurfacing System, you may be at risk for DePuy hip metal poisoning. Visit http://www.classaction.org/depuy-asr-hip-implant.html today to learn more about DePuy hip metal poisoning and to receive a free case evaluation, which can help determine if you are owed compensation for your hip implant problems.

Metal-on-metal hip implant systems, such as the recalled DePuy ASR replacements, may lead to the development of cobaltism, a condition caused by excessive levels of the metal cobalt. The symptoms of cobaltism vary, but may include the following: ringing in the ears; headaches; loss of hearing; depression; loss of coordination; fatigue; and seizures. In addition, cobaltism can cause tissue damage, which may complicate future corrective procedures.

Metallosis, or metal poisoning, may also be another side effect of the recalled DePuy ASR hip replacements. An inflammatory reaction, metallosis may develop in some patients when the metal-on-metal components rub against each other, releasing small metal ions into the body. Symptoms of metallosis may include hip pain, pseudotumors, and a rash indicative of dying tissue. Damaged and inflamed tissue which results from DePuy metal poisoning may also contribute to hip implant loosening or dislocation, as the tissue which would typically keep the hip replacement in place is weakened.

Patients who have been implanted with a recalled ASR hip replacement have been advised to undergo blood testing to measure the levels of metal particles in the body. Patients should be aware that high levels of metal particles may be present in their systems, even if they have not experienced any symptoms. If you have been implanted with a recalled DePuy hip implant, visit Class Action.org today to learn more about the risk of DePuy hip metal poisoning and to receive a free case review which can help determine your eligibility for legal recourse.
