This includes time spent working off the clock, breaks lasting less than 20 minutes, employee-required training or any other job-related task that the employer requires or allows to be performed. Bona-fide meal breaks are not considered work time and therefore do not need to be compensated. However, hourly employees must be completely relieved of their job duties during their meal breaks. Meal breaks for non-salaried nurses that are interrupted by phone calls, patients or physicians must be compensated and counted as work time.
