Morgan & Morgan Obtains Three Jury Verdicts and Over $48 Million in Damages in One Day

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 29, 2010 ) Orlando, FL - Morgan & Morgan is pleased to announce that trial lawyers at the firm obtained three verdicts of at least $1 million each on the same day. On April 18, 2010, attorneys at the firm recovered substantial verdicts in three separate Florida lawsuits. With one verdict for $46.3 million, one for $1.1 million, and one for $1 million, the total amount recovered by the firm for its clients on this date exceeds $48 million.

The largest verdict of the day came in Gainesville, Florida, where attorney Greg Prysock recovered a $46.3 million verdict for his client in a lawsuit against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Mr. Prysock represented Lyantie Townsend, who was widowed when her husband Frank died from lung cancer in 1995. Mr. Townsend had been a smoker since age 13 or 14. Mr. Prysock is a managing partner of the North Florida office of Morgan and Morgan and is also a partner in the firmÂ’s Orlando office.

The second jury verdict was recovered by Alexander Clem and John Dill, attorneys at the Orlando office of Morgan & Morgan. Mr. Clem and Mr. Dill obtained a $1.1 million wrongful death verdict on behalf of their clients, James and Laura Boyan. The BoyanÂ’s son, Jeffrey, died as a result of the catastrophic injuries he sustained in an auto accident. Jeffrey Boyan sustained serious head injuries when a van crossed the center line of State Road 40 in Ocala and ran head-on into his truck.

Attorneys Craig Stevens and Chad Brazzeal of Morgan & MorganÂ’s Fort Myers office obtained the third jury verdict on April 18, 2010. Mr. Stevens and Mr. Brazzeal recovered a $1 million verdict in a lawsuit involving medical negligence in Bradenton, Florida. They represented Carol Hughes, whose husband Jimmy died following complications from a surgical procedure. In this case, the jury determined that both the patientÂ’s doctor and the hospital where he was treated were negligent in failing to re-insert a nasogastric tube.
