Ex-Mayoral Candidate Caught With Marijuana On His Way to Florida, Miami Drug Rehab Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 25, 2016 ) Miami, FL -- Philly.com reports that ex-mayoral candidate Sam Katz was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana at the Philadelphia International Airport. When asked by TSA agents, Katz stated that he had not used marijuana in some time, but had intended to use it on a fishing trip to Florida. Because he was in Philadelphia when the marijuana was discovered- the city decriminalized pot possession in 2014- it was confiscated and he was fined $25. Had it been found in Florida he would have faced up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

There is a high need for addiction treatment in Miami due to the high volume of substance abuse in Florida. Miami Drug Rehab works tirelessly to help end the epidemic, and as such, does not condone Katz' intended activities in Florida.

A representative of Miami Drug Rehab comments:
"Former mayoral candidate Sam Katz' intentional attempt to break Florida's laws is not okay. While Philadelphia has moved forward with decriminalization of marijuana and we can hope that Florida follows suit, it has not yet done so. Despite the position Katz may hold, he should be and is expected to follow the laws of whatever state he visits. Possession of marijuana in Florida has lead to many unnecessarily lengthy prison sentences, and while his case occurred in Philadelphia, he should face the same legal ramifications as anyone else."
