In 2016, the Japanese Government allocated US$41.7 billion to its total defense budget, compared to US$59.1 in 2012, and registered a CAGR of -8.36% during 2012–2016. Defense expenditure is expected to grow at an estimated CAGR of 1.74% during the forecast period, to value US$45.8 billion in 2021.
