New Hampshire Prisons Fight Addiction with Naltrexone, Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire Responds

(USGovernment-News.Com, May 20, 2016 ) Concord, NH -- As reported by the Eagle-Tribune, the New Hampshire Department of Correction has implemented a program which will supply people with opiate abuse disorders who are exiting the prison system with Naltrexone- a medication which blocks neuro-receptors, preventing one from getting high from drug use. At least one person has already been released with the 'wonder drug' in hand; Naltrexone is a once-monthly injection which helps reduce cravings and aid in the recovery process. 100 programs in 30 states now use it to help combat the substance abuse epidemic.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire fully supports these necessary, if controversial, measures to end addiction. As a leading provider of heroin rehab in New Hampshire, Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire is intimately aware of the struggles faced by those who have opiate abuse disorders but do not receive the proper treatment.

A representative of Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire comments:

"Prison has never been the proper solution for people struggling with substance abuse disorders. While some may achieve long-term sobriety through extended periods of forced abstinence experienced in the prison system, this method of gaining sobriety is incredibly dangerous and more often than not, leads to relapse upon release from prison, creating a perpetual cycle of addiction and imprisonment. Having Naltrexone available to curb cravings can help people maintain their paths of sobriety, but this must be coupled with proper counseling and behavioral therapy to be truly effective. Hopefully our next steps in helping people with substance abuse disorders will be to include these services and increase public access to treatment."
