Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Has Blocked the Sale Of Powdered Alcohol In The State

(USGovernment-News.Com, May 10, 2015 ) Philadelphia, PA -- The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has unanimously voted to ban the sale powdered alcohol in the state of Pennsylvania. Legislators believe that powdered alcohol will impose high risks for substance abuse especially among teens. It is also believed that the sale of powdered alcohol in Pennsylvania will give teens easy access to alcohol.

Thus far the decision to ban powdered alcohol in Pennsylvania has been supported by Governor Tom Wolf and his administration, Pennsylvania's Department of Health, and Pennsylvania's Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs acting secretary Gary Tennis stated "the endorsement of products that may strongly appeal to youth or make it easier for individuals to consume alcohol in places they would otherwise not be permitted to do so by law creates an unacceptable risk to the health and safety of Pennsylvania resident."

Pennsylvania incurred over 342 drunk driving-related deaths in 2013. 20 percent of those incidents involved underage drinkers between the ages of 16-20. Although powdered alcohol has not been associated with any criminal charges thus far, the product does impose a huge threat to teens and adults nationwide. Legislators are being proactive in banning the product before it gains popularity and creates a negative impact on Pennsylvania residents.

"Drug Rehab Philadelphia supports the prohibition on sale of powdered alcohol in Pennsylvania. This product will only increase underage drinking and alcohol abuse in our state. With the product being easily accessible and easy to hide, it will be very appealing to underage drinkers. I think it's smart that liquor control board is stopping this epidemic before it even begins." comments medical associate from Drug Rehab Philadelphia.
