Ed Bernstein discusses Medical Marijuana in Nevada

(USGovernment-News.Com, December 08, 2014 ) Las Vegas, NV -- The Ed Bernstein Show welcomes Nevada Senator Tick Segerblom and Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani on this week’s episode. Ed and his guests will be discussing the latest Assembly and Senate elections and funding for the Clark County School District, as well as the most current Medical Marijuana news in Nevada.

Tick Segerblom believes that medical marijuana should be available to those who need it, and is an answer to more funding for public education. The Nevada Senator’s goal was to have one medical marijuana dispensary fully operating in the state by the end of the year. He is responsible for authoring the bill to establish a medical marijuana dispensary program in Nevada during the 2013 legislative session. Sen. Segerblom hopes that the end of marijuana prohibition is near, and has been quoted saying, “Marijuana prohibition has been just as big of a failure as alcohol prohibition. If we can regulate alcohol, there is no reason why we can’t begin regulating marijuana in a similar fashion and raise more money for our schools. It just makes sense.”

Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, like the Senator, supports the growth of the medical marijuana industry, but voted no on an initial ordinance in early 2014 that would allow dispensaries to be set up in the state of Nevada. According to the commissioner, her “no” was more of a “protest” for certain aspects of the ordinance, and that she does “…fundamentally think we should try to do it right from the get-go.” It was also Chris Giunchigliani who drafted the 2001 Nevada bill that legalized medical marijuana in the first place, when she was a state legislator.

Both Nevada representatives pride themselves on their abilities to see past an adverse situation look towards success and possibilities. Tick Segerblom, a democrat, came into a republican Nevada and secured the state for Clinton in 1992. Giunchigliani is focused on cleaning up her district, and making it a clean, safe environment for each and every member of her community. She makes herself readily available to anyone she represents and contributes to diverse organizations such as the Nevada Association for the Handicapped, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Central Development Committee.
