Federal Payments Announces No Cost Point of Sale Payment Solutions for Government Agencies

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 18, 2008 ) Dallas, TX - Federal Payments has offered no cost payment acceptance solutions to government agencies since 2003, but until recently these solutions have been limited to Internet, telephone, and other non face-to-face payments. Now, due to a recent change in credit card regulations, government agencies can take full advantage of no cost payment processing solutions for in-person payments.

"Government has always had a challenge when it comes to handling payment acceptance. On one hand agencies want to be able to offer the convenience and flexibility of accepting the most popular payment methods, but on the other, acceptance costs has prevented many of these agencies from implementation,” said Jeff Thorness, President of ACH Direct. “Now, with our in-person payment solutions, government agencies can accept credit cards, debit cards, and electronic checks online, over the phone, or in-person without incurring any expense.”

Federal Payments is the first large scale provider of this no cost solution, having successfully pioneered the roll-out to one of its state clients. "In the first two months of the program roll-out, more than 500 Verifone (NYSE:PAY) point-of-sale terminals have been placed throughout the state’s DMV locations. At these locations, customers have opted to use their credit cards more than 30,000 times for approximately $2 million dollars each month, without incurring a single dime in processing expense,” Thorness commented. “Given this volume and that each customer is informed of the small convenience fee before opting to use their credit card, the program launch can be considered nothing but a huge success for both the state and its customers."
All state, federal or local government agencies are eligible to take advantage of this no cost program.
