Exposure to toxic levels of zinc can cause unexplained weakness, numbness, and loss of sensation. Severe zinc poisoning can lead to neuropathy, a condition that affects the nerves. Symptoms of neuropathy include numbness or tingling in the extremities; a loss of ability to move legs, feet, arms, or hands; unexplained pain in the extremities; poor balance; and a decrease in walking stride. If not detected early and treated effectively, the effects of zinc poisoning can be permanent and debilitating.
