(USGovernment-News.Com, October 10, 2013 ) BATON ROUGE, LA — A driver who led police on a high-speed chase through several Houma subdivisions was arrested on Tuesday, October 8 after risking the lives of his two young children in the process.
An officer with the Houma police noticed a vehicle parked in the area of Daniel Turner Trailer Court and East Street Tuesday at around 10 p.m., and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. At that time the driver Jeremy Sims, 30, of Thibodaux, sped off through subdivisions reaching speeds exceeding 70 mph at some points.
Sims’ vehicle came to a stop only after hitting a curb in the area of Main and Grand Caillou Road, and when officers apprehended Sims only then did they realize his two small children— a son age 5 and a daughter age 2— had been riding in the back seat throughout the chase.
Passenger Darreka Boykins was arrested on child desertion charges in addition to outstanding traffic and drug warrants, while Sims was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice, possession of a stolen firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and other related charges.
