(USGovernment-News.Com, October 09, 2013 ) Florence, S.C – On Sunday a 64-year-old woman from Texas was killed in a motorcycle accident involving a deer. The accident which occurred on a stretch of U.S 501 near Florence, South Carolina is the 4th of its kind.
According to reports Merry Davis was riding on the back of her husband’s 2010 Harley-Davidson when a deer ran out from the right side of the road and collided with the motorcycle. Mr. Davis lost control of his bike and both of them were ejected from the motorcycle.
The time of the crash was 7:45a.m which is just after sunrise when deer are known to be very active. The stretch of the interstate they were on has woods bordering on each side.
One insurance company has ranked South Carolina as the 11th state where a driver is most likely to be involved in an accident with a deer. Currently four fatal crashes involving deer have been reported in South Carolina and in 2012 there were a total of 6 fatal collisions involving deer.
In 2012 more than 500 persons were injured in car collisions involving deer and as of October 2013 more 230 persons have been hurt in these types of crashes.
Deer are most active during dawn and dusk, drivers should be especially cautious when driving at those times near wooded areas.
