(USGovernment-News.Com, August 22, 2013 ) Oklahoma City, OK -- When it comes to drunk accidents, Budweiser is the beer most popular among injured persons. In a new survey, a wide variety of questions regarding alcohol, marketing, personal injury, and the possible links between them were explored at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in an attempt to draw more concrete conclusions about drinking and accidents.
Researchers surveyed ER patients who had been drinking and found that Budweiser was the number one brand consumed. Steel Reserve, Colt 45, Bud Ice, and a discount, cheap vodka named Barton’s were among the top alcohol products that brought people into the ER, as well.
Budweiser dominates the beer industry, with 9.1 percent of the national market. However, to put it in perspective, it accounts for 25 percent of all ER patients who were there for consuming alcohol or getting injured while consuming alcohol.
According to the Hopkins researchers, this suggests that products directly marketed to certain demographics are tired to higher risks. Traci Toomey, who was not apart of the study, said “we may want to put some controls on certain products if we find they are tied to greater risk, but even though how they are marketed and prices is critical information, it’s been hard to study in the past”.
The study’s authors were reluctant to draw conclusions from their findings in regards to alcohol advertising, they said that this pilot study served to prove there is a possible link that could be studied with broader research.
