“Florida has a strong history of established ties between schools and traditional four-year universities,” said the spokesperson.
“Ever since 1957, the state has maintained a 2+2 system that enabled students to attend a community college before transferring. Since the inception of this plan, huge strides have been made in facilitating the transfer of students throughout the state.”
It’s no surprise then that Florida ranks seventh in the country with an overall graduation and transfer rate of 51 per cent. In fact, Florida’s top four community colleges sit within just tenths of percentage points from each other, demonstrating the success these schools have had with graduating students.
Topping the list is Florida Gateway College (Lake City Community College). Since changing its name from Lake City Community College, FGC has been able to offer students a number of bachelor’s degrees, paving the way for the school to extend beyond the limitations of a community college. However, FGC remains committed to helping students graduate and transfer to other four-year institutions. This is evidenced in its 58.0 per cent graduation and transfer rate.
“Thanks to its location in Lake City, Florida FGC sits on one of the most beautiful campuses in the state in Lake City, yet it’s the high graduation and transfer rate that truly sets it apart from the rest,” said the spokesperson.
Second on the list is Lake Sumter Community College (LSCC). With more than 30 degrees and programs to choose from over three campuses, LSCC has much to offer to students hoping to begin their education or transfer to a four-year institution. It boasts a 57.8 per cent graduation and transfer rate, the second highest in the state.
“No doubt about it, Lake Sumter Community College is a place ‘where futures soar’,” said the spokesperson.
“LSCC is also a part of the ‘Direct Connect’ program, which means students can enjoy automatic acceptance into University of Central Florida and its affiliates.”
In third place, within 0.07 per cent of the number one spot in the state, is North Florida Community College, serving the North Florida region of the state. An affordable, accessible option for students, NFCC heroes the online revolution that is sweeping across campuses in the country and features a 57.3 per cent graduate and transfer rate.
