Dallas woman Was “Not All There” When Beating Daughter Into Coma reports DallasInjury-Lawyer.com

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 15, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A doctor recreated a grisly scene in his testimony as he described a woman gluing her 2-year-old daughter’s hands to a wall and beat her to the point of a bleeding brain.

Elizabeth Escalona pleaded guilty to battery of a child. She requested District Judge Larry Mitchell to assess her punishment, where the maximum sentence is life. Escalona is eligible for probation.

The prosecution pulled no punches with the mother, showing the difficult-to-view photos of the injury, detailing the injuries that were incurred by Jocelyn Cedillo.

The child had cracked ribs, bleeding brain, and severe bruising that were allegedly caused by direct blows, according to Dr. Amy Barton. The former child abuse specialist of Children’s Medical Center of Dallas said the girl remained in a coma for two days.

"When I think about the time involved [to cause the injuries] and what that scene must have looked like, it's overwhelming," Barton said.

Senior Cpl. Abel Lopez interviewed Escalona after the abuse, wherein Escalona insisted “I’m taking the blame.”

“She never asked about Jocelyn condition,” Lopez said. “I had to tell her,” she added.

The grandmother noted that her daughter sounded “wrong” after calling her following the incident. "I had my daughter in front of me, but she was not all there," Ofelia Escalona said, her voice often breaking throughout her testimony.

The grandmother found the little girl, who had soiled herself during the beating. She changed the girl, took her to into her car, and had her son to drive them to the hospital.

In the car the girl begin to speak and ask for food which made the grandmother believe the young girl did not need to go to the hospital. “I made a horrible mistake,” Ofelia Escalona said.
