(USGovernment-News.Com, October 18, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- The Developmental Disabilities Council of the District of Columbia works with people with disabilities and their families to empower them in the community, reduce incidences of discrimination and provide greater independence. The DDC is a body of fifteen individuals appointed by the District’s mayor and has been helping families since 2000. One of the focuses of the DDC is to bring attention to and solve the needs of those with the severest of developmental disabilities.
The DDC can help people suffering from disabilities as well as their families by providing resources within the community that can provide many areas of assistance including education, legal services, access to governmental services and job service and placement.
In addition, those who face incidents of discrimination based on their disability can contact the Developmental Disabilities Council for referrals to the agency or organization that can assist them with fighting back.
